Bebek ve çocuk yatağında en önemli dikkat edilecek tutumlardan birisi yatağın boyutu ve sertliğidir. Özellikle yeni doğan bebeklerin hassaslığı yatak seçimi konusunda oldukça önem arz etmektedir. Bebeklerin yüz üstü dönmeleri ve nefessiz kalmaları hayatlarını kaybettikleri durumunda en önemli yapılacak şeylerden birisi doğru yatak seçimidir. Bebeklerin ilk aylarında alınan yumuşak bir yatak, nefes alıp vermesini engelleyeceği ve ani bebek ölümü sendromuna neden olabileceği için önerilmiyor.
Bebekleriniz ve çocuklarınız, terlemeden ve vücut gelişimleri en faydalı yataklarda, kesintisiz uyku çekmeleri için uygun yataklar seçmeniz bebek ve çocuklarınızın konforu ve sağlıklı bir şekil uyku düzenini sağlaması önemlidir. Yatak rahatlığı konusuna gelecek olursak sert ve yumuşak yatak tartışması her dönemde gündeme gelmiştir. Kimi zaman yetişkinlerde sert yatak, bebeklerde ve çocuklarda yumuşak yatak daha iyi olduğu düşünülmektedir. Sert bir yatak ise çocukların kemik gelişimini olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Özellikle bebeklerin kemik gelişimleri ve uyku sağlıkları için ne çok sert bir yatak ne de çok yumuşak bir yatak tercih edilmemelidir, orta sertlikte bir yatak tercihi bebekler için doğru yatak seçimi olacaktır.
En çok dikkat edilecek husus “Ani Ölüm Sendromu”dur. Bu sendromu yaşayabilme ihtimalini her zaman düşünüp yastıksız düz bir zeminde yatırılmamalıdır. Bebeğin yatağı sert ve yumuşaklık açısından iki seçeneğin ortası olması gerekmektedir özellikle 0-3 yaş arasında visco yatak kullanılması pek önerilmemektedir. Bebek ve çocuklarınız için yatak alırken kansorejen ve sentetik bir yatak olmadığından emin olmanız gerekmektedir.
Bebek ve çocuklarınızın yatak boyutlarını seçmeniz doğrudan boyu ve kilosu ile ilgilidir.
Burada seçeceğiniz yatak boyutu bebek ve çocuklarınızın hareket kabiliyetlerini düşünerek satın almak daha doğru olacaktır. Bebeğinizin ve çocuklarınızın alerjik reaksiyonlara karşı ve hijyen açısından onlar için yıkanabilir bir kılıf kullanmanız işinizi kolaylaştıracaktır. Her şeyden önce kumaş sağlıklarına zarar verebilecek, tehdit oluşturabilecek maddeler barındırmamalıdır. Sentetik kumaşlardan çok 0 pamuklu kumaş kullanmanız her zaman için tavsiye edilmektedir.
Bebek ve çocuk yatakları için birçok çeşit vardır bunlar; sünger yatak, yaylı yatak, lateks yatak, visco yatak olarak özelliklerine göre ayrılmaktadır. Bebek ve çocuklarınıza seçeceğiniz ona uygun olan yatakların seçimi sizlere aittir. Çocuk ve bebek yatağı seçimi yaparken ilk olarak aşağıdaki sorulara cevap vermek gerekiyor:
Bu sorulara cevap verebildikten sonra doğru ölçüde ve çok ağır olmayan bir çocuk ya da bebek yatağına sahip olabilirsiniz.
Çocuklarda yatak seçimi gelişimlerini olumsuz etkileyebileceği için oldukça önemlidir. Özellikle hava alan yapıda olan yataklar çocukların sağlıklı gelişimi açısından tavsiye edilmektedir. Çocukların kesintisiz ve derin bir uyku uyumaları için vücut ısı değerlerinin stabil ve mevsim koşullarından bağımsız olmasıdır. Çocuklarda vücut yapıları sürekli değiştiği için uyku ihtiyaçlarını en verimli şekilde karşılamaları gerekmektedir.
Çocuklar gün içerisinde çok hareketli ve aktif oldukları için gece uykusu oldukça önemlidir. Fakat gece uykusunun yanı sıra gün içinde de uykuya ihtiyaç duydukları için her zaman dinlendirici, rahatlatıcı ve vücutlarını destekleyici yatakların seçilmesi önem taşımaktadır.
Özellikle omuriliğin doğru ve doğal pozisyonunu alarak gelişim göstermesi açısından, desteklenmesi gereken vücut yapıları, yanlış yatak seçiminden dolayı duruş bozukluklarına sebep olabilmektedir.
Çocukların uyku zamanlarında fiziksel gelişimlerinin yanı sıra zihinsel gelişimleri içinde uyku evresine dikkat etmek gerekmektedir. Çocukların zihinsel gelişimlerinin sağlıklı ilerletebilmesi açısından “aktif uyku evresi olarak” adlandırılan “REM” sağlıklı bir şekilde tamamlanması gerekmektedir. Çocuk yatağı seçiminde doğal olmayan yani sentetik içeriğe sahip yataklar, kaliteli bir şekilde uyku sağlamadığı gibi çocukların daha hassas cilt yapılarına sahip oldukları için ciltlerinde büyük sorunlar yaratabilmektedir.
Visco yataklar vücudun şeklini aldığı ve yumuşak yapıda olduğu için bebekler ve çocuklar için önerilmemektedir. Visco yataklar, üst kısmında viskoelastik materyal yer almaktadır. Viskoelastik sünger vücudun şeklini alması ile özellikle bebeklerin uyku esnasında yüz üstü dönmeleri ve nefessiz kalmaları hayatlarını kaybettikleri durumu söz konusu olacağı gibi rahat nefes alıp vermede güçlük ve sıkıntı çekebilmektedirler.
